Upholding Our Rights to a Healthy Community - What is the California Healthy Communities Network and How Does its Work Affect Our Own Community?
Sunday, July 8th 5:00 - 6:30 pm
They have organized around a simple idea -- "that at strategic moments our many organizations should join forces around a clearly articulated agenda to promote and uphold the rights of a healthy community".
Joe Feller, Phil Tucker, and John Nunes will present an overview of the California Healthy Communities Network and will give an update on the organization's struggles, victories and future plans in and around Alameda County. We will learn about a recent victory in Livermore as will as an ongoing struggle in the city of Alameda against a massive big box development on the island. They will also discuss Wal-Mart's proposed Merced distribution center which will be critical in all future Wal-Mart site struggles.
Please come and bring your questions because as always, our speakers will be interested in a dialogue.
Beverages and snacks will be provided.
